Annual breed fads

Sounds like an F1 hybrid not a breed to me.

BigDaddy'sGurl :

I found someone tonight on a local website trying to sell his/her version of "buff sussex" for 20.00 each. I may be wrong, but I believe that it takes more than they did to create one: their ad says they crossed purebred sussex hens with a purebred BO rooster...

If I am right and they are trying to sell crossed up chicks for 20.00 each, I will laugh loudly at anyone who buys them. If I'm wrong:

(That's not how one would create a genuine buff sussex, right? I mean, you can't just mix two breeds and call it a new breed, right? Right?!)

Well, how many generations ago did they make the cross? And do they consider them a "project" or a finished product? Sometimes breeders will sell project birds for a higher cross than a mere mutt should bring to limit purchasers to those who will seriously work on the birds. And sometimes people try to make a quick buck off the naive.

How can a common breed like a Barred Rock be a fad? Or do you mean the excellent quality (which is from true Heritage stock) from Frank Reese stock (AKA 1900s E. B. Thompson champion strain) will be a fad? Quality is quality, not a fad, in my opinion.

Aren't fads more like something new and often non SOP?

I have a question .... How do you feel about people that request hatching eggs (or chicks) from things like this, and then change their minds? Fads changed and so did they?

Well, their ad says:

Description:
Buff Sussex Pullets and Cockerels Mothers are full blooded Light Sussex crossed with Full blooded Buff Orpington Rooster

**that says to me that it is an individual with sussex hens and a BO roo.

Sounds like your last sentence hit the nail on the head.

And I copied and pasted their ad from the word description until rooster. Their actual wording.
