annual inspections

Hi All,

This is my first post. I'm just in the stage of deciding whether or not I want to keep chickens. I checked with my local animal control, and chickens are allowed. However, an annual inspection is required.

Has anyone ever dealt with an inspection before? I'm in Massachusetts.

im in mass also and my town has ridiculous rules.technically i have to have an acre of land to even have one chicken.do u believe that?im just gonna take my chances and get chickens anyway.

Wish I knew more about your question. Haven't had to deal with anything like that since Reno is pretty easy about chickens (as long as the neighbors don't complain and you're not in an HOA). Wanted to say welcome anyway!

I haven't had to be inspected yet, but I have a gamebreeders license and I can be inspected at any time. From what I have gathered inspections usually are to check for compliance with regulations (i.e. # of chickens, clean coop area, health and welfare of animals, location of coop). I have chickens, quail and rabbits and I make sure that the animals always have food and fresh water and that their areas are clean. If you keep your animals in good condition as well as their pens you should be fine, I would check first and make sure that there isn't a charge for the inspection (or at least it is nominal), some cities charge a huge fee for inspections so they can say they allow them but don't really want them.
