Hi everyone -
Seems like its been raining every other day here lately, and consequently the pine shavings in my chicken houses don't seem to stay dry for any length of time because of the wet muddy feet going in and out! I turn the bedding over with a rake every morning, add/replace shavings weekly, and DE doesn't seem to help much, if at all. Now we're expecting snow today, and I know that will make everything even messier and wetter. ugggggggghhhhhhh.....
I was discussing this with my husband last night and he suggested using cat litter under or mixed in with the shavings - just the cheap clay stuff, nothing fancy. Or I was even thinking of Carefresh bedding, although its WAY expensive. Or what about newspaper? Shredded up paper feed bags, anything! Seems to me tho, all those things would CAKE up, and I know we want to avoid that.
Grasping at straws here - I know I can't keep everything BONE dry, but there has GOT to be a better way!!! Suggestions anyone?
