Hi all! I'd been thinking for a few months about getting chickens -- I'd originally planned on ordering some peeps from Meyer's and driving up to get them, but instead found a lovely little flock on Craigslist (yay, Craigslist!) A lady a few towns over was thinning back her numerous "herds" and so had this great little group all ready to go -- three barred rocks, two partridge rocks, two NH reds, one white rock and one handsome cuckoo maran roo (that's him in the pic; he gets a little feisty but hardly counts as vicious :p ) So... chickens! And eggs on day one! And fertile eggs which possibly means chicks down the line if one of my NHRs will ever consent to go broody or I can find/borrow/build a cheap incubator. Speaking of cheap...

Where on earth can I find good feed around here? The Ashland TSC isn't bad, but I'd sure like to find DE for less than 10 bucks a pound. And I'd love to get my girls some organic feed, if only I could find some. Anyone know where the "real" feed stores are in Ashland or Richland county? Thanks!

We offer a full line of poultry feed, even organic, right here at the Hatchery! We have a feed drive-thru attached to our retail store. We also carry DE in 5lb, 10lb and 40lb bags. The more you buy the less it is. The 40lb bag goes for $25.75. Hope to see you soon.

Chris, thanks so much! I thoght they only sold wholesale. And yay! Roadtrip to Meyer Hatchery! I've been wanting to come up for ahes and see all your chicks, and that's a VERY reasonable price for organic. Thank you and yes, you will! (Now if only I can avoid coming home with a whole new batch of Golden Buffs... lol!)

Well, I have to say Meyer Hatchery has a really nice, clean store -- and lots of healthy, happy chicks! I was hoping to see their adult flocks (there's lots of breeds I haven't seen in person and would love to) but for obvious reasons, they keep their breeding flocks at a different farm. Fun place to visit if you ever get a chance, and I would have no hesitation ordering chicks from them!
