Another craigslist ethics question

sorry, i totally skipped to the bottom, but i have done some craigslisting in my time and am NEVER put off by laboring for free stuff. even stuff with a price. karma will get ya - picked up restaurant floor-padding for cheap. seller wasn't home. left $ under the mat. could have scored free stuff, but that's not my style. never offer to haul free stuff!

I think freebies are pick-up only. The only exception would be if I was going to be in a more convenient spot to meet anyways.

I had some mixed breed bantam chicks listed on craigslist for free a few weeks ago. A lady emailed me and said she wanted them. I called the number she gave. She wanted the chicks. She wanted me to drive over an hour to bring them to her. She wanted me to give her some chick starter as well. I said nevermind. She sent a couple of rather unfriendly, bordering on nasty emails after that about how upset she was that she wasn't getting the chicks and what a horrible person I was for not doing what she asked. Whatever lady.

I NEVER let Craigslist people come out to my home! There are some really strange people on there and the last thing I need is a wackaloon knowing where I live. I do spell out very specifically where I will meet people. It pretty much has to be on my regular path and I am not willing to deviate far from that. If it is easier for me to take it to Goodwill, then why would I bend myself in knots to give it away to some fruitcake who isn't willing to meet me?

Thread title: Another craigslist ethics question

Having bought and sold quite a bit on CL, I am now convinced that 95% of the time those two words are mutually exclusive!

Twisted, it is NOT too much to ask!

Tell them them item is free, but delivery is $50. Then move on to the next person willing to pick it up. Expecting it to be delivered is just weird.....

I feel your pain .. I am going thru this now.. What part of "Pickup Only" do folks not understand...

LOL.... almost as good as the time I was selling off some stuff on CL and a potential buyer wanted me to pay his GAS MONEY if he didn't want the goats I was selling!!

I have learned to be VERY brief and businesslike on CL. I still use it, but with a lot of backbone. I don't "hold" items, I don't dicker.

For the record, I recently spent $180 on a dog kennel and house of off CL. It sat on 60 thick pavers that came with it. Pulling those up was a PAIN, and it was 95 degrees out. I was 5 months pregnant. The guy helped us pull up the pavers and load them, but we didn't expect it.

I am happy, I got a $600 kennel and 100 heated dog house- and a good afternoon of exercise- out of the deal.

sometimes I post free for the taking on CL. and I say "it is at the end of my driveway with address, first one there gets it.

usually gone by the afternoon.

Thanks everyone! I was on the verge of feeling that I should (I do tend to be too nice sometimes). I do agree too with letting unknown people into your house, it is rather creepy. Luckly for my house though most people run away screeming from after seeing all the cages with the large spiders, centipedes, scorpions, and snakes all over.

I'm definatly going to put pick up only when I repost it. If anyone is wondering it is for some lawn ornaments that came with the new house that are so cute they're kind of creepy, and really not our style. I hate throwing things away though.
