Another devastating blow for L&S Chickens

Yeah, no "Killing" traps, but there is more then one way to "Skin a varmint"

Funny how the rat poison got left out.

I found the best solution to coon, fox or any other varmits is a plain old dog. Just let him run loose around the place and no critters, to include rabbits and deer in the garden. If you don't have one, I would suggest geting a puppy and let it grow up with the chickens so it doesn't harm them.

^^I totally agree, our dog was killed, hit by a car, when we first moved here and we still have not fenced our property from the road. We are working on it though. Then I will be getting a patrol dog for sure.

Sorry about your loss......We were visited (in the daytime) by a coon....but luckily nobody was harmed.
I love nature and all animals, but seriously, I hate them being pests.....
I would feed any and all animals if they would leave my babies alone.

I strongly recommend not using rat poisons, you must be careful mice don't eat it and then die in your chicken run or anywere else chickens can get access to the dead mice..if the chickens eat the dead mice you will have dead chickens..please be very very careful were you place it..

I know its a bummer that you cant use traps..but if your far enough out were nobody see's. well you'd be pretty safe using them id think..

hope you get the killer one way or another
Charlie

I cleaned it up very well. There is not a trace of it left. I have a small dog and a cat and do not want to posion them so I cleaned up the dish and all the surrounding area after all the bait was gone.
I have not seen the raccoon in 2 days now and the hamburger and marshmellows are still in the un-sprung live trap. So, I think I got my killer.
I will not relax about the chickens yet though.

Hope you got the potlicker Shellie! This is a little off topic but I was working this morning and Buck just wouldn't shut up. I opened the window to yell at him and noticed he and both llamas were looking to the north across the fence. I ran downstairs and caught a huge coyote trotting off.

I ran upstairs to get the rifle but unfortunately he got into the woods before I could get a bead on him. Thank God - really - that I still have all my chickens, ducks, guineas, peafowl, and cats accounted for.

That's the first time I've had a yodle dog around in about a year. Guess it's time to keep my Winchester by the door.

God Bless,
