Another Dog attack.. hen survived but in shock..

Funny part is her chicks are so old.. I need to go check and see how they are doing tonight ten weeks old and first night without their mommy..

As for PenG Procaine what is it and where can I get some. Should my local vet have it, or can you get it from the local TSS

Thanks,
Christal

here is the girl, who looks amazingly well.

She looks very sweet, and I'm sure with your TLC she'll recover with out a problem, I hope her babies are okay, I bet they were tramatized by this too. keep us updated.

Shock is her biggest enemy right now - can easily kill her. Try to get a bit of electrolytes in her - in a pinch, can spritz Pedialtye on a treat she likes. As has been said, put her in a quiet warm very comfy place and keep reassuring her that she'll be okay. Soothing continuous reassurance can sometimes help keep them from succumbing to shock. When imbecile people let their dogs run loose and they attacked ny hen Ellie, I thought I was going to lose her - but I cradled her gently in my lap and spoke soothingly to her till she seemed to come out of shock (about 90 minutes). Then I evaluated her injuries. (another thing that helped her was her very sweet roo buddy - put him with her and he comforted her so gently for many hours).

She may well benefit from pain relief. Pain can make her disinclined to eat or drink. If you do not suspect internal bleeding and if she is not otherwise actively bleeding you can give aspirin for pain. A low dose is 1 baby aspirin (81 mg) crushed into one cup of her drinking water, fresh batch at least daily. Sometimes to get a bird that's hurting eating and drinking again, I cut up bits of favorite fruits and dunk them in the aspirin water and then feed them by hand. They get a bit of aspirin this way and it begins to take the edge off the pain, thus inspiring them to eat/drink on their own from there forward. All of this can wait till she's not shocky.

Rescue Remedy has been mentioned. Do give this.

Neosporin applied topically for surface or very shallow injuries. Puncture wounds may well require oral or injectible antibiotic to tackle infection that could well kill otherwise.

All birds in lockdown, as the dog will be back. The dog (i.e., the dog's irresponsible 'guardian'), is another subject, once your girl is stable.

Starting at about 7pm she started drink water not just a little, she pretty much emptied a glass spice bowl I had in there twice, and then got busy eating a scrambled egg, pellets, and yogurt. I did dose her water with popular vi sol, and rescue remedy. I think one of her hips had been dislocated. she wasn't bearing any weight on one leg, I picked her up felt all along her good leg, and gave a gentle tug on her foot to extend.the leg completely. Did the same to the leg she wasn't using. Felt fine but when I extended her leg heard this horrible bone sound. scared me to.death. She whimpered for a split second, I about started crying thinking I broke her after her already having a horrible day. But then she slowly put it down and cautiously put some weight on it. You can see some brushing on her thigh muscle.

This morning she is slowly walking around her brooder and seems to like the heat lamp, she keeps putting her parts that are missing feathers under it.

I think she will be sore but make a full recovery. My husband on the other hand was rattled at such a big dog and me and his best friend throwing just bricks at.it. He verified the law that says even in the.suburbs you can fire a.gun to project life and property. Then he made sure we knew where the keys were to the gun case. I think his fright was as bad as hers in some ways. poor guy was still saying I'm so glad your safe I'm sorry I didn't have the gun read for you. I love having a wonderful husband but how.was he supposed to know that was about to show up.

I think my poor birds might ne living under the porch for a while. a bit after all this a hawk showed up and started messing with them. This morning they all were under my porch and around the pool. They no longer desire their open half acre.

when a bear or Jaguar shows up that will be it I'm going to move to the country, to many predators in the suburb.

Is there anything I need to be concerned about with the feathers growing back in?
