Another dumb question about turkeys!

That thing on top their beaks,,is that the snood? And why sometimes is it real long and hanging down and sometimes its all pulled up tight and looks like a stump? what does that mean?

my man turkey can control his snood. He pulls it back when he eats or bites stuff so he doesn't accidentally bite it. I don't think it really means much.

It gets long when a male thinks he has to impose his pecking order status in the flock.
