Another Egg Bound Hen.

When mine are like your hen I give nothing but fluids. If you're worried about blood sugar, go to Tractor Supply and get a bottle of 50% dextrose and mix 6ml with 54ml of fluids to give orally. Yesterday I think I gave my hen 60ml four times before she laid, and one of those times I gave it with the dextrose. After she laid she drank water and ate.

Anything I can mix up at home? Already been to TSC once today and got a lot to do this evening. I think she actually feels like she has lost weight since 2 days ago, but I haven't dragged her in the house to weigh her. I'm guessing I should give another 60 ml of fluid before sundown, if she still hasn't laid.

You could try corn syrup or table sugar, just not sure how much.

How's she doing?

She gets up and walks a little then she lays down for awhile, then she gets up and walks a little. I'm going to do fluids again just before dark, would you give calcium again at that time as well? She had 2 ml at noon .

My vet had me do it twice a day, so I think if she were mine and hadn't laid by nightfall that I would.

Just laid the egg.

I couldn't save this one, she laid it standing up and it landed on a stone so the side was caved in, it was a bit thin shelled, but not soft at all. Is there anything I can do tomorrow to try to bolster her up a bit. She just seems like this is taking such a toll on her.

So happy! You could tube Kaytee to her tonight and tomorrow, that should help her.

Would you do fluids as well, it seems like maybe she may not be drinking enough either.

Yeah, I'm all about the fluids. Maybe fluids tonight, twice if you can swing it, then runny Kaytee tomorrow?

-Kathy

We did give some already. We went down to do fluids and that's when I found the egg. I had everything along, but wasn't sure she needed it, so I just gave 40ml. That's gonna have to do for tonight, the TMJ is kicking my A** right now, so I need to take some pain meds and lay down. Runny KayTee tomorrow. Thanks once again!
