Another egg.. completely dif color! Quick question

Nah dont worry about derailing the thread. I love my boy :) and yes we have worked with several trainers; private and groups. I have him under full control and he is very obedient. His prey drive is thru the roof, so much so that if a stranger is around he doesnt care, he WANTS that ball (well his fave is his frisbee lol) you can offer him any food item but if that frisbee is around, forget it, he WANTSSSS that frisbee.

And while i do have FULL control over my dog while in public, he is fine walking thru crowds etc. i do muzzle him because many people dont have control of themselves or their kids, no dog should ever be approached without asking the owner/handler first. Or heaven forbid someone with some kind of disability that wouldnt understand no touch pops out of no where, I know my boy is always safe.

So by me making sure he cant bite someone who doesnt have dog sence... i am protecting him in the long run.

I did orginally plan on breeding him, had his hips and elbows OFA'd and he is DM negative but unless i knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that they would go to serious working dog homes, i will not breed him.

Thank you. :) you definitely seem to love him a lot and seem like a great owner! :)

I am glad you have him under control and are so responsible about it. You are right, definitely safer for him to be muzzled and you to not have to worry about it, because you just know if some idiot sticks their hand in his mouth or reaches out to pet him behind your back or something and he bites them, of course they’ll sue and he’ll get labeled a “dangerous” dog.

It just makes a lot of sense. I am actually equally annoyed with people doing that and 1000% agree. People here in the US seem to feel entitled to pet other people’s dogs. In Europe and most other countries, they don’t, and the dogs are much better behaved because they just get ignored and are expected to behave. Here people get so dang offended and act like you’re so rude and mean and nasty if you don’t want them touching your dog! It’s ridiculous.

Even if the dog is not aggressive or civil or anything, sometimes it could be in training, or a service dog, or be fearful, or sick, or the owner just might not have time to talk, or whatever. All perfectly valid reasons but people don’t seem to respect that.

Same for dogs on a leash in off leash areas too!! So many people seem to think it’s fine to just let their off leash dog charge up to leashed dogs or to people! And it’s always the “oh he’s friendly!” Line. Yeah, well maybe the other dog isn’t or is in training.

I’ve actually heard of a lot of people muzzling their dogs, even friendly dogs, or just shouting back in response to that line “yeah well mine isn’t!” Even if it is just to keep the idiots away haha not sure I’d go that far but people feel so entitled. I have also heard people say of muzzled dogs “oh well if he’s so aggressive/vicious, he shouldn’t even be in public.” I always feel like replying the muzzle protects YOU more than it protects him :lau

Anyway, sorry for rambling, I think you are being very responsible and that is good that you are thinking about the puppies future. I think it is smart to find only working homes for them especially because most people definitely wouldn’t be able to handle such a civil dog. Or at least the average pet owner. You could potentially breed him with a little bit more social dog but then you don’t necessarily want to water down the lines or the working instincts so it’s probably a tough balance. He seems like he would be a great working dog though.

I agree with everything you said, 10 fold!!!! Also, in some other countries its against the law to breed your dog without proper testing and some kind of titling. And yes people do say they shouldn't be in public, well if i have mt dog under control then maybe they should have themselves under control. Even the friendliest of puppies i ask if I can pet their dog. Its a respect thing. Like you said the dog could be in training or could be like mine, fine with people walking by, stopping to talk but does not want someone they dont know to touch them.
And while i do like that he is very protective, I know my family is safe especially my teenage daughter but.. I do wish he was more sociable. But it is what it is. I love him to the moon and back and I'm thankful i know how to handle a dog like him. In the wrong hands, a strong minded GSD could cause major problems and give this amazing breed more of a bad name. All for doing what has been bred in them.

Im going to send you a private message:)

Yes!! There are sooo many people breeding dogs that shouldn’t be as well as dogs being bred that never should be!! Then they end up with no homes, put down, or in the wrong hands and aggressive/dangerous or abused. :( should definitely require some sort of testing but of course that’ll never pass cause of “freedom” lol I also wish more dogs had to pass some sort of working test and/or structure assessment too (not just conformation) cause even in show dogs, a lot of the dogs look pretty but could never work or have terry bad structure and wind up with problems. Not that I have anything against show dogs or non working pets, I think they’re great and ally dogs have been pets and/or mutts, but I think they should at least be able to work and having the proper structure helps hugely with their health too even with “just pets.” Not that show breeders don’t care about structure but I’ve definitely seen some with some issues ha

And exactly!! I actually like muzzles if the dog is properly desensitized to them and doesn’t mind (can’t just slap one on and have them be miserable in it haha) cause to me it means the owner cares enough and is responsible enough to think of the dog and other people and not just let him bite someone haha and they clearly have put time and training into the dog.

And in fact, I’m sure he’s better behaved than most adults. :lau

I actually find children are better behaved/more respectful than a lot of adults!! Not all of them of course but if you explain it right, they are usually far more respectful and understanding!! And they don’t insist and keep pestering! They usually just accept it or go oh okay. Adults are like but I’m really nice. Dogs usually love me. Like nah, it’s not about you lol do you get that a lot? :lau

Also I know some people who have really cute dogs or gorgeous dogs but that have issues with people or dogs and people can’t believe they’re not friendly! They insist that cause they’re so cute they must be! And with one of them, some people have tried to pet her anyway and almost gotten bit then are surprised when she snaps at them. Like... they warned you not to do that haha I think they usually have to muzzle her cause of people who can’t keep their hands to themselves.

Aw yeah I bet that’s really challenging! Especially having kids friends come over and stuff? But you seem like you have him under control. :)

And okay, sounds good. Sorry to completely derail the thread!! Hahaha
