Another egg swap thread

What about a rule about age of the eggs? if you only have one or two hens and get six eggs in six days then ship which on average takes three days you got ten day old eggs, then with shipping making thing more unstable. your right on the edge of hatcable for half those eggs?

just my 3 cents

it looks good from what i saw but i have a question on the purebreds part for when mine start laying. r showgirls allowed? and r frizzled cochins allowed? i consider them pures since they breed true but didn't know if others did. i wanted to double check so i know ahead of time.

also if we don't have enough laying r we allowed to do an assortment? for example like say i don't have enough silkie eggs to send a full 6. then can i put up like an offer of 3 silkies, 2 serama and 2 frillback pigeon eggs since all r purebreds? that way it keeps the eggs fresher and can ship faster. or do all 6 have to be same breed? oh and r pigeon eggs allowed also?

i always try to add between 8-12 eggs if i can do it just incase of breakage but i know not everyone does or can.
thanks,
silkie

Well, those are good questions. I say no on the pigeon eggs. This is for chickens only. From what Ive seen, Id say showgirls and frizzles, or sizzles, or whatever you want to call them, should suffice as purebreds. An assortment should be okay, but you might want to offer a few more, say 8 eggs instead of 6, in order to do that.

) But eggs have good fertility even after 6-7 days. I've had good hatch results from eggs that were collected over a week's time and took a week to get here, totaling 14 days. I think it should be fine. From what I understand and what I've experienced, 10 days and even up to 14 days can and will work. As always though, the sooner the better, but I see no problem if the eggs are properly handled after they are collected.

That should be fine. As always, the more information you can put in your offering, the better informed the swappers are, and they can decide if its something they want to do.

i always try to send min of 8-12 nomatter what so that's not a prob there. not a prob on the pigeon ones, i just didn't know which swap they'd fit in,lol. sorry i didn't see it was a chicken only i thought it was any pures, i'm glad i asked.

my rule on how old eggs r before ship is 3 days or less from time laid no more than 5 days old if i absolutely have too. after so many days like 10 i think it is fertility drops everyday by a percentage. so asap ship is best.

Ok I am a bit confused , Lets say I have New Jersey Giants, which I do, and I say I am willing to swap 12 eggs. What happens other people contact me with what they are willing to give for the Giant eggs?

Also, even though this is "pure breed" people can post breeds outside of the APA standard, correct. Show girls, marans, Blrw.

I tried reading the current swap thread, but I am having trouble distinguishing between the "on topic" posts vs the "comment" posts. It appears like its sort of like bidding, is that right? I didnt see any , "deal accepted" posts though.

Sorry the hole idea of swapping is knew to me, never had a wife.

Heres the rules for the swap:

https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=129555

The swap has already started. The first offering has already been made. I think currently the offer is for buff orps. If you want the buff orps, you would post Taken and put down what you then have to offer, which would be 6 Jersey Giants. They would stay on board until someone took them, and offered something in exchange. You are responsible for shipping for your Jersey Giants, and you will get what you swapped for shipped to you.

Yes, it is for pure breeds.
