Another Egg ?

Our flock of 7 have been laying for 1 yr now. 4 RIR and 3 Barred Rocks. My ? is I've noticed the texture of the eggs aren't even. Some are really smooth while others are spotted and rough. They free range for about 2 hrs a day, get plenty of fresh veggies and fruits along with pellets. What causes egg shells to vary so. As always thanks for answering my ?'s.

I'm new to chickens, but I've noticed the same thing. My comet hen lays nice smooth large brown eggs. My RIR has just started laying, and her eggs are small, darker and frequently very rough on the outside. Taste OK though. Could this be happening because I sometimes put out oyster shell? I started doing that because I got two shell less eggs (on different days, of course) before the RIR got regular. Also, is there any way to influence the size of the eggs? Just wondering.
