Hi Friends,

one of my three female ducks, Katharina has recently started to lay…
… so far no problems at all with her, she is laying a greenish egg per day, perfectly shaped with real thick shell.
Now yesterday i had the DuckyCam application open on my computer and was alerted to a duck wining in pain and hit the recording button (look at the duck behind the heat lamp, my ducks are talented in finding the spots where the camera cannot watch!):
Curiosity Duck had build herself a nest and was struggling and wining, i assume to get her first egg out. By the time i walked over, it had already happen: She had laid her first greenish egg. Perfect shape, perfect shell. But Curiosity seemed scared of what had just happened and all the Duckies were scared and huddled in a corner to get away from me as far as possible. So i left them alone, did not took the egg until today (replaced it with a wooden one). Curiosity and the others are back to normal.
Is that common that a duck experienced pain when laying her first egg?
Should i worry about Curiosity Duck? (Well i do worry!)
Anything i can do for her and NoName Duck who will likely start laying too?
Thank you very much in advance for your help.

I’ve never actually been inside one of my coops when any of my ducks have laid but I would think a first time layer would have some pain and be afraid since she has never done anything like this before. They can also pass a little blood and it end up on the egg too. So beware of that also. Was the egg a normal size?

I had forgotten to close the camera-application, otherwise i would not have noticed it. The egg is the size of a large chicken egg, no blood or tissue on the shell.
It felt terrible to see my little girl in pain and turning left and right!
Have moved the heat lamp today, so the camera has a clear view and tonight i will have the camera-application up and recording…
I really hope this was just for the first egg!

Today it was Katharina's turn to moan and wine… :(
She laid this egg, compared to an extra-large chicken egg from the local store:

It must have been painful, she was moaning and wining for 15 Minutes. But again: Perfect egg, no blood or tissue "samples", just large.
Now She and her sister Curiosity (no problems tonight!) are sitting on their nests, guarding the wooden eggs that were delivered today. ;)

The DuckyCam is an Amcrest IP2M-841 web-camera with pan, tilt and zoom capabilities and is mounted in my Duckies house. I am using it to observe my ducks behavior. At the moment it is not connected directly to the internet, but i'm working on this…
You want one: Search on any internet-selling platform for "amcrest ip2m-841". There are three versions, 841B, 841S and 841W for Black, Silver and White. The camera has full HD (1920x1080) with up to 60fps and it costs around $50.
I'm quite happy with it, except for the fact that there is no official way to access the camera from the internet than to connect it to manufacturers web-site (some where in China…) - which i won't do[period] - I'm working on an open-source solution.

Thanks!

So how do you access the videos? Just have them saved on a sd card?
