Our chicks were hatched May 13th, and since the days are getting shorter, I had assumed we may not get any eggs until Spring. However, this afternoon there was a tiny light brown egg in one of the nest boxes. I've never been so excited over an egg before!
I can't resist sharing a few pictures.
It is fairly small--about half the size of the large white grocery store eggs in the carton next to it. I went grocery shopping today. I figured the best way to get the girls laying was to buy a dozen eggs. It worked!
My good boy, Asher, was very curious about why I was taking pictures of eggs and not of him.
My four-year-old was almost as excited to see the first egg as I was. I was oh so nervous he would drop or squish it, so I asked hubby to help him hold it.
After putting away the groceries, I decided to see if there were any more surprises since one of the dominiques was sitting in the nest boxes when I collected the first egg. Lo and behold, there was another one!
