Hi all,

I’ve joined and introduced myself on the other thread. Hello! :frow

We had our flock of 4 birds (2 Silkies, 2 bantam brahmas) reduced to just the Silkies by a fox, so we’ve recently hatched 3 eggs so the girls have now been joined by a polish and 2 Perkins. Lovely birds! Pictures below.

I was hoping to get some confirmation on the genders of the new chicks? For clarity, the flock is (with their names):

White Silkie - Repeckah - female (100%)
Black silkie - Billie - female (100%)
Black Pekin with red gobbly bits - Dilophosaurus - male?
Black pekin with little yellow bits - Saltasaurus - female?
Brown Polish - T-Rex - male?

Once the male(s) start crowing we’ll have to get rid of them as we live in a residential area sadly. Not even sure how we go about that :idunno

Thanks,
Dave

Pic 1- male
Pic 2- both males
Pic 3- male Polish, female cochin
pic 4- white Silkie female
Pic 5- I think female, but not 100% on that.

The male Cochin is the birchen pattern, the male Polish is bearded buff laced, also called chamois in Europe.

Agree.
Can you send some face pics of that black silkie?

Pippin's easy guide to silkie sexing

Hello there! When I hatched my own silkies, I studied and studied about how to sex them. I read that it was almost impossible to sex them, and that you had to wait for a crow or an egg. Raising and watching them helped me pick out certain traits that only belong to roosters or hens. These...

Thanks both for your replies - sad to see 2 out of 3 “chicks” are male. Any idea what to do with them?

More pictures of Billie below, but I only really included the Silkies for completion. They’re both laying and they both hatched the other 3 chicks when broody - fairly confident they’re female!!

So the polish is male, as is one of the Pekins. My wife will be sad; she loves the Polish!

To re-home roosters you can advertise on Craigslist or an equivalent website in your area. You can post notes on farm shop bulletin boards. And you can try posting in our own re-homing section on BYC, here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forums/animals-in-need-of-free-re-homing.16182/
