Maple has been one of the sweetest Silkie chicks we have and continues to be. We have 3 Silkies and as they developed we noticed that Maple grew faster than his "sister" Marble. We have had 5 suspected cockerels over these past few months, 4 have turned out to be just that..boys! However Maple, God love him/her has been a little bit of an enigma to us. We assumed boy by the growth rate and being that we lucked out every batch of chicks we have gotten a male in. However, at 16 weeks he has never crowed, even though his younger brother Ombre is all about strutting his stuff across the yard and in the Coop and he is 2 weeks younger. I am begining to believe that Maple may actually be female lol. The comb is flat and the wattles almost non existent. I am posting pictures of Ombre - the dark blue and Maple - the light blue/grey. I know 100% that Ombre is male but could anyone help me out with identifying Maples gender?? Thanks guys!

I'm thinking possible late bloomer cockerel, or possibly just a masculine pullet. This one's abit tricky. I'm so used to the Chinese Silkie, not so much the American type. The extra fluff makes things harder to identify.
Thank you, I am stumped also. We have no problem if he is a she or vice versa. Maple does bump chests and stare off daily with Ombre but again, he/she never crows. Also, during these exchanges, Maple is always the one to back down and walk away first. I appreciate your response. I suppose, as I have told others, time will tell in the end 😊
