Another goose fence that did not work for me!

That would almost be like our chicken wire with larger openings. Have not seen it around here. Sounds interesting.
Yes, that´s it, larger openings and much thicker wire. It´s strong but very manageable. I´ve fenced off most of our property with it, does the job well. Well, it should do if it´s for pigs! A friend of mine has a wild boar x pig and uses this wire. I´ve also made a 6 ft high dog-run out of it. I have 3 biggish dogs, one with springs in her legs, but this keeps them in.

Yeah, I know about different stuff... my dad in Switzerland had THE coolest mini tractor with a dump trailer. That thing could drive up the very steep terrain with no problem. Wish I could get/afford one for around here.

Speaking of fencing, we put up no climb horse fence this past spring, we had woven wire fencing but we have a bear problem and the bear would bend over woven wire like it was plastic, so we decided on no climb and so far either the bear can't get over it or it hasn't tried. I think you have to think about what preds you may be having to deal with also when thinking about fencing.
Wow, we don't have bears here yet. I'll also talk to the folks at the feed store to get more ideas on the fencing. One recommendation was to put up a shorter secondary perimeter fence. That could be a pain to maintain and costly to put up. Double fences do mostly work to keep deer out. They don't like to jump into a confined space.

So is this fence to keep geese in or deer out? Or both? In which case, obviously pig-wire isn´t going to do the job...unless you do it 3 metres high or more!

Oh, the goslings in my avatar are Toulouse. They are big now. Still not sure how many males/females. For the first time I noticed one pulling another's wing for some time and making quite a show. Maybe hormones are coming in...

Time to have separate paddocks soon.
Lovely pic, I have some tinies that look similar. Why not take pics of yours and post them on "serv´s up" thread, he likes to have a guess at the sex etc.

Goose newbie here forgive dumb questions please....someone is giving me her trio of Tollouse. I plan to pasture them with goats and the perimeter fence is King King style the goats cant even get out of 2 x 4 no climb with barb wire on top and on the road side barb wire is 2 feet off the ground on the inside so they wont lean on it. It is 5 feet high. Will geese jump out of that? I really frowned when I saw it mentioned about babies getting out of holes that size. I hadnt thought of that. Thats a MAJOR problem for me...it is 640 feet of fence on that pasture.

I don´t worry with my chickens or my ducks, because the babies stick pretty close to mum. The thing with goslings, is they´re inquisitive and often lead the family....so can go and get themselves into trouble if they´re able to get through but the parents can´t. Mine once found a gap in the fence and we´d just left the house to go out. Happily, I just glanced along the fence and there were the little things in our neighbour´s field with frantic parents. I had to climb through the barbed wire fence among the cows and cow poop to get to my babies and then fix the fence...all in a dress!

Just thought... once my geese have started to sit and they have about a week to go, I shut her in a pen by fixing a 1metre high, 1" guage weldmesh fence around her with water, of course, and when the babies arrive they´re all safe with mum, and I let them out when they´re bigger, about 3 weeks. It works well for me.

Now THAT I can do! Ill just make a sorta "nursery" yard. Good idea with those goats anyway so they dont smash babies! Im certain mama will be on guard for that! Ok I feel better about this. Do they grow at a pretty speedy rate? I have chickens and turkey to compare them to. :) Yes...chickens are the "gateway" farm animals....lol!
