We have two EEs and two Welsummers that are about 5 weeks old
I'm willing to bet right off that the two EEs are pullets, but I have some questions about the Welsummers.
I'm a newb, so...
Do Welsummers typically develop their combs and waddles relatively early?
Both or ours have started to, so I figured (hoped) that it's a breed characteristic.
Additionally, one of them is
a) A bit smaller than everyone else in the group.
b) Has feather development about a week - 2 weeks behind everyone else.
c) Has a bigger comb and waddles than his/her breedmate...and they're reddening already. I actually thought the chick had a cheek wounds at first, they're so red.
d) Might be slightly more aggressive when carried and when I bring meal worms.
e) Edited to add: And a new development: We just moved them to their house, and s/he's taken to sitting in / "guarding" the door at the top of the ramp.
The other Welsummer's comb and waddle do have a little pinkening, but not like the one above.
They're both coloring out the same (I'll try to get pics in a bit).
Do you think I could have a roo (or two...hopefully not two, though) on my hands?
It's not a huge deal if there is one. Where we live, we can have one and my neighbors (my big concern) said they wouldn't mind a little crowing. Welsummer roosters seem awfully pretty, too.
