Well, After finally getting the original incubator that I built working the way I wanted to to, I realized something.. I had the light on the side and because of this, any chick that would hatch would burn their little feet... Sooooooo, I built another one... I changed the design around a little but but I don't need nearly as many vent holes (besides for just normal air circulation) to even the temp out.. I would still love to have a fan but, I can't find one so this will do for my first hatch hopefully starting tomorrow night... (Come on mail lady... Bring me some eggies!!!!) So.. I am sorry it is a little pic heavy but wanted to give y'all a good look at it...

This is the top and front views

Closeup of the window and a look inside (only the digital thermometer will remain in the bator when the eggs go in. Just using the other one to make sure the temp is correct)

This is the vent hole to let heat out during the daytime since it's warmer in the house then

This is how I turn the egg carton (my ghetto egg turner lol)

This is the light on the ceiling

And this is the sponge to keep the humidity consistent.. When i need more humidity, I just put a syringe through the holes on the outside and wet the sponge.. Don't even have to open the bator or worry about tubes or straws... It's attached with a zip tie..

i think you're great and have a brilliant idea.

and yap, you have been realization the "window on side not on top" idea. that's look good. i also have done mine for new eggs tomorrow. oh, i want to ask, what about that egg turners? how degrees that the turner work? is still confused to egg turner, generally, we have 2 options: 1. make eggs "standing" and "bend" it's position to left and right (if use manual) 2. make eggs "sleeping" position, then turn it 180 deg with mark 0 and x to different each side. so, if using turner how is it going? i still can read it out. help me.

good luck for your new bator.

Awww... thank you Mulia!

I'm sorry.. I didn't take pics of the bottom of the egg turner and I should have... All I did was took an egg carton, cut the top and flap off (where it closes) and then shortened it a bit so it wasn't so high.. Then I took cardboard and tape and made the bottom flat and attached a rod (in this cast the long bottom piece of a plastic hanger cut to length with dog clippers) and taped it to the bottom so that the carton does not sit evenly.. When I want to "turn" the eggs, I just twist the rod sticking out so the eggs will lean to the other side...

Hey Terri, I see your still at it while you wait on eggs..you know what is happening....your "trying" to keep busy as you wait and your anxious for them...so your doing bating stuff...

Well I set my eggs in yesterday, and having a bit of a problem regualting the temp...you know once you put the eggs into the bator your reading change due to the fact that now your eggs are in and they have H2o in them....but there in!!!! Also on another note, decided to "try" and make a bator and see if we can get it to work....

almost like yours with one exception, read that its best to have the light at the bottom, heat generates up...ok, did that so we got some wire and made a safety bulb coverage, and we also added a thermostate that you set it to run the temp you want, when it hits that it shuts off, and when it drops, it turns back on. I cant recall if you did yours like this?

Anywho...now Im trying to figure out the turner part...

I think mine looks cheesy...but we will see...let me see if I can get a pic. with my cell phone to give you an idea.

I don't have one... Controlling the temp by watching it carefully and using the air vents... The temp stays pretty consistent during the day with the vent hole on top open and at night drops about 2 degrees so I just close the vent hole.. Unfortunately, I don't have a whole lot of resources at my fingertips at the moment so outside of the cooler ($1.88 at wal-mart), we had everything else..

Yea.. But, I will have to worry about that when they get here.. Unless I want to waste the eggs in the fridge, I can't do anything about it now..

The last one I built, I had the light on the side.. But, one side was getting way too hot and the other side wasn't hot enough.. As i said in another reply, I used what I had... Unfortunately, I only had a clamp light that I could use and it takes regular bulbs.. The dimmest one I have is a 13 watt energy saver and the other one I have is a 20 watt energy saver.. Well, if I put the light at the bottom, even with the dimmest one, it gets too warm and the little babies would burn their feet... Same problem I was having with it on the side the way i had it... But, at the top, I can use the 20 watt bulb and have the heat radiating downwards and the temp stays consitent.. I have the vent hole on top because heat rises and if I need to let some heat out, I open the hole up... At night when the temp in the house drops, I will close the hole off.. Would be much easier if i had a thermostat but as I said, I used only what I had...

Anywho...now Im trying to figure out the turner part...

I went to the resale shop and got the plug for the bator for .75, also bought a picture frame for the glasss for .50 but I got an 8x10 doesnt fit, I need a 5x7. so Im at a stand still until I get all that...resale shop closed today...

Yeah... I ran into that problem last night... The "window" I used in the other one didn't fit the side so, the only other one i could find had one of those dang pictures painted on it.. Well, I took it apart (who in the HECK put so much dang glue on it!?!?!?!) and used nail polish remover and a towel to try to rub it off.. well, that didn't work so after slicing my finger and getting blood everywhere I finally found the glass scraper and used it to get the rest of it off and then cleaned it with glass cleaner.. That was a FUN ordeal.. Let me tell ya!! Yeah.. It's fun typing without the use of my right index finger.. LOL

And your bator looks good so far!

poor Terri, cutting fingers and all...you know WD 40 takes gooy stuff off, vinegar not so bad at it either... You'd be surprised what you can use vinegar for!!! Fabric softner in laundry, dishwasher rinse, mopping, there are so many things. I make my own laundry soap and dishwashing soap. laundry cost me like 3.00 for 10 gallons, alot less on dishwashing.

well at the resale shop I also got a wire basket rack, rectrangler...that I want to use as part of the turner... .40 cents!!! But I have alot to do today...and feeling drained today. so taking it alittle slow.
