Another limping duck

Thats a great idea, i bought a dog crate, but i want her to have a little more room than that to move around, so i will try that.
We penned our two up and even though they are not very happy about it, that has really helped with the healing process so they are not running around on their sprain and making it any worse.

They also have a little pool in with them and that too seems to help with them keeping their weight of their sprain and gives them something to do. :)

@ducksinvt
If you don’t have one get a dog pen, ours is about 3’ tall and makes a 6 ish foot diameter circle when set up, it was a lifesaver with the dog when she was young, it’s been great with the ducks, I can isolate one without keeping them apart from the rest, often I look out and see 7 ducks laying around the one in the cage snoozing. Slows them down but makes for less stress on everyone. Best 70-80 bucks you can spend.
Thank you for the idea, I went out and got one, and luckily its also attaches to the crate I got, and its working perfectly, and shes not completely miserable, just a lil!!!

Hi!

This is how I do it.

Grab a pair of rubber gloves, dab a bit of the DMSO onto the glove, and slather the gel onto her leg. The coating will be clear, and light enough the other ducks won't even see it, nor is it a problem if it gets on their bedding.

Sorry to revisit this old thread, but my Cayuga, Fiona, has been limping off and on the last two days. I suspect she just jumped out of her pool funny or maybe it is a small mating injury. She is acting fine otherwise. Usually she is sound in the morning/early afternoon and limping by evening or late afternoon. All of my ducks free range and have somewhat calloused feet, but I’m terrified of bumblefoot developing.

I also usually use DMSO for their little limps from time to time, however, I saw in another thread on BYC that it could possibly help them absorb toxins or bacteria into their bloodstream. I hope I haven’t done anything wrong with that. Thank you always @Isaac 0

I feel bad for your duck. I have been battling similar limp issues with our heavier ducks and it's not bumble foot related. Your Ducks foot looks fine to me, but I am no expert. @Isaac 0 will be better to help you. :) I also use DMSO and it works great IMO.

Oh, thank you! I thought it was maybe a wow about the DMSO comment which I was concerned about, since I just read it may be dangerous. I’ve used it without any noticeable issues though. It just freaked me out to read it on here 😳 I know @Isaac 0 uses it too, which makes me feel better that you both have been using it without problems.
I really hope your ducks get to feeling better ❤ it is always hard to see our babies not at 100%

I am not sure how dangerous it is or not for people to get it on their hands? If it was dangerous stuff, why would anyone who loves their ducks us it on them? :confused:
