The best way I know to tell for 100 percent certainty is to follow these steps exactly:
1. Grab the bird like a football in the air
2. In one single motion flip it upside down.
3. Put the tail feathers to your nose while moving the bird in a circular fashion
4. Very important! Be sure to hum the words to the chicken dance
