My name is Kim, and I have a large family, and we are trying to be as self-sustaining as possible. I am pretty comfortable in forums, I try to bring the funny, and I know ZERO about raising chicks, aside from the dozen my husband declared will be coming to live with us in a couple weeks. Needless to say, I'm here to lurk and suck the information from yer thredz.
good luck with your dozen peepers and I hope you love your fuzzies as much as the rest of us.
sounds like you might have americanas ( also known as Easter eggers) on the way. They lay all different colored eggs. Locally hatched chicks are a great way to go as it seems the hatchery birds are pretty well stressed out by the time you get them. I hatch my own with broody hens and occasionally get hatchery birds through local farm supply stores or fellow chicken lovers who have ordered too many. I LOVE hatching my own. It's quite addicting.
