Thanks! And I have no clue.. I can't remember what our friend told me. They are parents whose kiddo goes to preschool with my son, and they just have too many. When this next batch hatches they are sending them our way. He told me what kind, but he also said they are cross bred. Pretty casual folks. The eggs we get from them are all different colors.. Does that mean anything?

sounds like you might have americanas ( also known as Easter eggers) on the way. They lay all different colored eggs. Locally hatched chicks are a great way to go as it seems the hatchery birds are pretty well stressed out by the time you get them. I hatch my own with broody hens and occasionally get hatchery birds through local farm supply stores or fellow chicken lovers who have ordered too many. I LOVE hatching my own. It's quite addicting.
