Thanks for the tip..... I did do a quick read-thru on it, and found it extremely helpful.

My husband found a pre-fab coop.... it's about 32 sq.ft, cute little set-up, with an additional 200 sq ft garden area that they'll have free run of. I found a breeder not too far away and he raises an assortment of breeds, specializing in egg layers. We went a couple weekends ago and took a look at his many chickens; it looked like he has alot of Marans, Americanas, Naked Necks, and several others I can't remember the breeds. (Several black/white speckled types, etc...) He was very knowledgeable, helpful and his farm was very clean and organized..... I was impressed, with no issues over buying from him. I'm in a toss up over getting 4 different breeds and seeing how they lay or picking 2 birds of 2 breeds I'd like. I'm pretty sure I'd like to get at least 1 Americana as he has several different colors/variations, but depending on where you read any information, they may or may not be brooders, lol.. So depending on advice from here, and from Russell, I'll probably go with what's most adviced. :) I've never raised chickens themselves, although while a teen I lived with familes who did, and that was generally my chore. I've always wanted them, and finding out my City allows up to 4, made this a no brainer. :)
We're still a week or two out before buying them as my husband is a perfectionist and wants everything just right for the chicken's area as he's reinforcing the wire "roof". I"m starting with egg laying aged chicken as I don't have the facilities for chicks or the time everything says you need to be around while they're that young. :)
