Another other newbies - addicted to this page???

I also like this site. Built my coop over the winter and the pin this spring. Already have 15 Buff Orph's and while on a business trip in southern Missouri I found myself standing in Cackle's lobby. I now have 5 Welsummers and 4 EE. I figure what I don't want or don't need I can sell. I'm still not home yet. The little buggers are doing fine, I got light and small bag of feed. The Buff's are at home and the 9 others will be home tomorrow.

Hey Barb, (LOL), that is an awesome looking coop, I had a plan to do something similar, but "chicken math" took over big time and now I am expecting over 50 chicks between now and June...

Figured I better start BIG! Oh, and just another testament to my crazy chicken lady-ness I got a random text on my phone last night from a friend of a friend of a friend... that had 1 lonely chick left out of 6 that had survived. (some drown, some pasty butt, 1 eaten by family dog) that she needed to get rid of, so after dinner last night I stopped and got another chick! She is a white rock and about 2 weeks old so she is 3 times the size of the buckeyes I got Wednesday, but the are all getting along great... I just couldn't believe I am now known county wide! Hope I don't get any more rescue calls soon though, brooder isn't very big and coop still isn't done! ( Of course I couldn't say no though)...
Yes, except much, much smaller!! I tried to post pictures, but I think I am still "Too New" since it won't allow
me to.

My husband and I have been debating this chicken issue for over a year now and put our order in for 8 chicks last week!! They come in April 3rd and I just can't wait!! I'll be caring for them for about a month before anything is done to start a hen house. Hubby is military and wont be home until the end of April. Where we live its kind of a grey area if we're allowed to have chickens or not... the other side of our street is zoned, not ours, and we are on a ravine so have huge wooded backyards. My neighbours are just as excited as I am. We'll have a go and see what happens!

Since we live in NE Ontario Canada I'm getting 3 PBR, 2 RIR, and 3 ISA Brown. The guy at the feed store buggered up my order (I wanted 4 of the first two and no ISA Brown) but OH WELL!!

I can't believe how much information is on this site! I'm on here constantly. I think of a question and look it up right away.

Looking forward to learning with you all!!

Rachel

Another addict. So much really great info here. We had laying hens for about 4 months until we lost them to a predator.

I miss them so much. It has definately been a learning experience. We are getting chicks at the end of April and I have been researching like crazy. I wish I had known about chicken math before we built our coop. It is only large enough for 8. I can see us adding on in the future.

I am definitely addicted and I don't even have my chicks yet. I used to have chickens growing up but we lived in town and they stayed out on my grandmother's farm. I went out there after school to feed them and gathered the eggs. This whole backyard thing is new to me. But we are very excited. We are going to commence building our coop and run this weekend. The chicks arrive on the 23rd and we can hardly wait. I think that we're going to find a couple of hens that are already laying because we are so excited for fresh eggs and we can't hardly wait until our chicks start laying. But we will have to see! I will post pics of the coop progress next week! Have a great weekend.

. But I love talking with other chicken lovers!

Addicted, probably not. I'm only on here several hours a day. Every day. It's not my life or anything. I could stop if I wanted to. I just don't want to. Nope, not addicted.

I am so glad that I am not the only one!!

I stopped in at Tractor Supply to look at something totally un-related to chickens and almost walked out with 6 more bantam chicks. Oh my, they were cute!! We only wanted 4 and have 8 already...my new mantra..."I can say no to more chickens!" I just have to keep repeating it over and over!!
