So we had our first egg on Tuesday, and today, Thursday, she acted the same way, "bawk"ing, and getting into her nest, and fixing it up, staying in there for a while, but no eggs. I finally just opened the door to the pen so she could go out with the other two girls, and she never really went back to the nest.

Is this normal?

Nevermind, I'm quite shocked....

I went to check on them, and she was dead on her back. I did not expect that, and I have no idea what happened. The other two were fine, they had all eaten the food and snacks, no blood or wounds.

This really freakin sucks.

You know...I had a hen do that today and another the other day. She got in the nest, acted like she was going to lay and then NOTHING...got up and walked away. I guess she is going through the motions to practice because they are just starting...not sure. It was a bummer not to get an egg though after all that effort.

You've heard the expression, "Now don't go lay an egg"... now we know why.

Sorry for your loss.

I have no idea, I just started researching all this "eggbound"ness today, because I thought her behavior was odd, these are my first pet chickens, so I'm kinda learning as I go.

I just feel so bad, what a horrible way to die! And that's alllll I could think about, when are they going to lay, I want them to lay.

Now I'm dreading the other two starting to lay.
