I'm going to be full of silly questions today!

I was sure I read somewhere not to give chicks cold water, it would kill them..... can't remember where I read it though.

My chicks are now 3 and 4 weeks old. We have moved them to our garage into bigger brooder boxes. (Glad to get them out of the kitchen, am still chasing feathers around!)

I have an outside faucet, and it would be so much easier to get their water from there, rather than coming into the house to get lukewarm sink water every time.

Is that going to be okay?
Thanks!

First, IMO, no question is ever silly. If you have a desire to learn, you need to ask questions so keep asking your questions!!!

I am no expert and there are others on BYC who are and may have a better answer but I never gave my chicks lukewarm water and they did fine!

Good luck and welcome to BYC!

I'm pretty new to chickens also, but I give my chickens water from the hose everyday and they are very healthy.

Hi! First off~ There's no such thing as a silly question! We've all asked it before, that's how we are able to pass the knowledge on.

It won't kill the chicks to drink cold water. Don't sweat it... But, its helpful to offer them warm water when they're really young, it will help them maintain their body temp. to where the cold won't do it any favors, but won't kill them.

When I was new to chicks, I used to give warm water the first couple weeks, too. Not anymore though. Mine all get water straight from the hose or the sink. I do add a TBSP of organic ACV per gallon to their water, as well, at least every other day.
