I promise I've tried to do some reading... I've looked up the linked articles on other posts... But it's just my nature (anxiety) to need to talk through things...
Sassy is a new addition to the family. She's currently in quarantine, with two other birds I got with her... She had a NASTY case of SLM but reacted well to treatment and has seem perfectly healthy otherwise... I just picked her up (to take a picture of how much better her feet look!) and liquid started "pouring" out of her beak! I've never seen that in almost three years of chicken tending... She seemed totally unconcerned about it. When I squished her crop, some more came out. It was soft and squishy, and didn't feel abnormal to me at all. She resumed eating and drinking after I put her back down. She LOOKS fine to me, red face/comb, no visible mites or lice, perky, active... Her poop looked maybe a little bubbly? She hasn't started laying yet since being here (and I believe she's about a year old?). Vent looked to be contracting, but she didn't feel eggbound, to the best of my knowledge... No picture of the vomit because it disappeared into the snow... But it was yellow with maybe a bit of white, not chunky or particularly goopy... Breath didn't smell at all... Only change in diet has been the addition of a little bit of scratch the last couple of days...feed is 16% grower pellets with oyster shells on the side... Not free ranging at the moment due to quarantine... No specific grit in the coop, but I've never had to supply it..since the coop/run is on "gritty" ground... There's a lot more shavings in the run right now though, since I emptied the coop shavings into the run.....
