Answer to the Delaware Dilemma

I think we should contact Bill Braden and Janet Holtman and see if they would have any interest in the new club.

As far as I know they both have very quality stock and I know Bill has been breeding for ages.
I feel like someone with Bill's experience would make a good club president.

Oh, and Beth. Look on Craig's List for incubators. Now is a good time of the year to do it too. Look under farm and garden. You should be able to find a good one at a very reasonable price! And adding a fan to a still air LG is a piece of cake, in case you buy one of those. I'll walk you through it every step of the way! Piece of cake, I tell ya!

Jeremy, I want to invite every good breeder we can possibly think of to join. And Janet and Bill would be on the top of my list. Paul Harter, too. But in choosing a president you need someone who can keep things in order, is organized, detail oriented, yet can see the large picture, and has good people skills, has the TIME to do what will need to be done to get us up and running, blah, blah, blah. A top breeder may not automatically have all the criteria a leader needs. I ran into that in the music world - some of the best musicians I knew who were teaching couldn't run an office to save their souls- their minds were totally into the music. Maybe Kathy, or Kerryann - I would suggest Marty, but I think he is too busy. And I don't mean to diss Bill here, I have never met him, he may be perfect for the job and would love to do it. Who knows till we ask, right?

Serrin, I think you have just instructed us all in log cabin making - wow!!!! I would never have the patience you and Denny have- but I can appreciate the feeling you will have once you are in it, knowing you have done it yourselves - keep posting pictures!

I agree Beth, we need all the "big guys" we can get, but like you said they may be too busy for whatever reason to commit on the level of "holding office".

Which to that I say, let them be too busy, they're out there making fabulous birds. I'm sure someone will step up to the plate and fill the shoes when need be, you know?

I just like the fact that we're actually organizing this, and trying to move forward altogether!

Walt, I don't know why the narrow bodies would necessarily be influence of CR, but that was a list a breeder emailed to me, so I put it up for consideration. It could be just bad culling practices, for sure. Even breeders have smaller Dels hatch out of show stock, as we all know. Anyway, I like how the distinctly barred hackles look in hens, just don't see that often.

I hope Janet is able to pick up the torch again with her Delawares. A relative is keeping her flock until she is back in the game again.
