Ant control?

Hi, I seem to have ants living in the walls of my coop. I contacted the manufacturer of the spray we use around the outside of our house, and they advised against using it on the chicken coop. What can I use to get rid of the ant colony without being bad for the chickens?

I find diatomaceous earth to be effective vs ants.

Permethrin would also work if you want a chemical solution. It's used for mites on chooks. As with any chemical check dosage for safety. While chickens have low toxicity for permethrin it could be overdone.

Great question ... if they're 'carpenter ants' then they are going after wet wood. You just have to fix the wet wood problem and they'll typically go away on their own. Plus, if that's the case, you really want to fix the wet wood problem anyway.
