will an oral antibiotic help if my frozen(frostbite) chickens feet become infected? My husband bought some oxytetracycline(what the person at the store told him). It says it is to treat diseases, would it help an infected foot? It says it's a broad spectrum antibiotic. Any help is appreciated.

It is a very good antibiotic for that reason-but depending on its age the bird may lose a part of the foot if it has been frozen. You need to keep it on clean shavings and it needs to stay extremely dry.

I would think a penicillin would be more appropriate..
Pen-G for example.
look for antibiotics in the livestock section.

some are kept in a refrigerator..

you need something that treats staph or strep. bacteria.

oxy is for treating respiratory illnesses..

Pen-G or Baytril..(Baytril comes from a vet..Pen-G and other penicillins are available at most farm/feed stores)
other meds:: lincomycin, amoxicillin, cephalaxin..(Keflex)
