I'm preparing for lockdown on my first ever hatch. The eggs were shipped so I'm preparing for drama. I've read that antibiotic ointment is sometimes necessary for navels and such, and I keep reading specifically that it has to be "antibiotic ointment without pain relief". Can somebody explain why the lack of pain relief is important? I'm asking because I can't find any without... they all seem to proudly advertise the presence of pain relief! I'm looking on Amazon or anybody who will deliver, because I don't want to leave my house right now to go to a feed store or pharmacy (I have a really bad cough and my lungs are compromised, so I should probably stay inside). Can anybody recommend a brand or give me a link if they have one, or if not, explain the pain relief issue? Or... Will good old regular Neosporin work? I have some but the tube doesn’t say if it has any additional pain relief powers or not...

I just edited my post to ask about Neosporin, actually. I guess I wasn’t sure what to look for specifically. I was looking for it to explicitly say “no pain relief”, because of all the emphasis on that in BYC posts. But I guess unless it states “with pain relief”, the default is without, even if not mentioned?

Correct. With pain relief, it will say Pain Relief clearly on the packaging.
Without pain relief is simply Neosporin or similar brand/generic antibiotic first aid ointment (usually says for minor cuts and scrapes).
Hope that helps!

It does help, thanks! It was the wording in the posts that threw me off. They should’ve said just use regular Neosporin. I have that. Everybody has that 😁
