antibiotics and crop surgery

We have a chicken with an impacted crop. I'm planning on doing the surgery mentioned here later today as the hen seems to be on her last legs. Can anyone tell me how long the incision needs to be? And is there someplace I can get an antibiotic without going to the vet?

You should be able to get antibiotics at the feed store.
