Antibiotics and Egg layers...

We had a puncture wounded hen who has been treated with painkillers and antibiotics. She is doing much better, and we have discontinued both medications.

The vet recommended that we not eat her eggs for 1-2 MONTHS due to the medications in her system.

Has anyone had the same recommendations?

This would require us to keep her in isolation for that time frame, as we are not able to determine who lays which egg when. (She is not happy about it, and lets us know.)

Any help or insight to is greatly appreciated.

I have heard that you can flush her with Epsom salt and warm water and not eat for one week and then put her back with the hens.

We have rinsed her with saline, rinsing out the wounds, and rinsing her feathers.

When you say flush, are you rinsing her, or are you sending Epsom salt through her system? (Sorry, just a newbie, and I don't want to do the wrong thing...)

Thank you! I was just going to ask that!

Is this something that I could use in her water, instead of straight water? She is in isolation, and getting just the medication in her was.... trying.

Thank you!

She's been sipping at the water since last night. (And head butting the top of her re"coop"eration room. Anxious to get back out with the other girls.)

I'm not sure who is more ready for her to return to the coop, her or me.
