I researched for 3 hours, and seems to be hard to find info on safe antibiotics for geese wounded. (Fri. even. Only have a 'country vet' and she is closed.) I can get to a Tractor Supply this evening.
My 3 month old Shetland Gandar stuck his head thru the 2x4 dog fence and the terriers bit him on the head .I saw something going on and tore outside an got him free. He went off and took a swim in the just cleaned pool. I went out and inspected an wiped the wounds with baby wipes(grandsons), and put triple antibiotic on the 3 wounds. Small puncture, a scrape and a longer scrape on neck. There was only a little blood when I rescued him... He was a bit stressed and sat good for me. But then he was up and hanging with his flockmates, acting normal, grazing etc.
I dont' want to over doctor and give him toxic doses....I am inclined to watch him and just put antibiotic creme on it unless it starts to look bad.(I got accidently bit by the terrors once breaking up a fight and treated it similarily.....)
My son is bringing me some tetracycline powder, but then I read it probably isn't the best thing....I also read that penicillian G shouldn't be used in some birds...
Anyone have experience with bites and these drugs?
