Yesterday we introduced 3 gorgeous black cochin ladies to our existing flock. All of them are between 13 & 14 weeks old.

It was absolutely hysterical to watch the antics going on the second we entered the run with the rubbermaid tub with the 3 new ladies in it.

The top rooster, Big Boss, who is an EE came running out to see what this big blue thing was. Percy, who's a Barred Rock immediately jumped onto the bin and looked down into it, then crowed!

I took them out one by one and introduced them to the flock. Immediately Big Boss started to dance around them, clucking his little heart out, crowing a bit, flapping his wings and just being the fool.

My grandson and I laughed watching the antics of this crazy rooster as he greeted the new ladies. The rest of the roosters all stayed back and let BB do his welcoming dance. It was just so cool to watch.

Henny Penny, the head hen, who's a Barred Rock, immediately began to peck at them and BB stepped in and put her in her place and then continued his dance. He even went over to the raspberry bushes and brought each one of the ladies a leaf.

I was kicking myself for not bringing my camera with me.

Next time, I'll be prepared. The transition went smoothly and BB is happiest of all!! LOL

So is the offering of a raspberry leaf like a chicken engagement ring or something?

Raspberry leaves are delicacies!! They have eaten every single raspberry and leaf they can reach through the fence. Big Boss had to really stretchhhhhhhhhhhhh to get those!

I think it was a welcoming gift!!

My wonderful husband decided that the chickens would enjoy some of the raspberries too so he built their coop and run right next to some of the bushes. They've stripped everything they can reach! LOL

Yeah, I love my roosters, too!

13-14 weeks is pretty young to be adding them to an adult flock...hope they do okay for you! Good luck - they sound beautiful!

ALL the chickens in the pen are between 13 & 14 weeks old! Even Mr. Big Boss, which is why his dance was even more great to watch!

Our only adult rooster, Ricky, age unknown because he was dumped here, has been pacing outside the chicken run because he wants to be in the run with the ladies.

We keep telling him just a few more months and we'll have ladies old enough for him too. LOL

I'm so glad your rooster loves the girls. My roo did not particularly appreciate them...he preferred the girls from his own "batch" and would not allow the cochins to eat at the same time as him, or be on the same roost. He wasn't very nice to them at all, although he wasn't over aggressive....just not nice. Glad they have a "real man" now.
