Antics of a Not So Intelligent Chicken

Holliewould... You'd have to pry her out of my husband's dead hands!

He loves that chicken!!

CarriBrown, "a sprinkler mishap" - I laughed out loud at that one. The photos of Gwen are great. Bless her mentally challenged little head.

I hope I dont offend anyone with this comment...But come on look at Gwen. She's a blonde! See I can say that because I'm a blonde too and yes I think Ive done pretty much the same thing. I couldnt figure out how I was getting wet one day while working in the yard, my kids had disappeared, I hear a bunch of laughing and look up and my son is on the roof with one of those soaker guns. He's lucky he was on the roof (lol) I even think I kinda looked like Gwen after getting soaked. I do love Gwen she is just the cutest thing I've ever seen! Thanks for sharing her pics! and you can always give us more...hint..hint:D

After a little more than four months of having chicks that are now more than half grown, I've concluded that I wouldn't enjoy these nincompoops half as much if they were smart, e.g., watching them run to catch up with the others always gets a grin and sometimes a laugh out loud. They'd follow me anywhere to get bird seed with sunflower seeds in it, i.e., I like 'em dumb. Still I think my Orpingtons would be the "smartest kids in the slow class".
And my silkie with her new chick, ... Now there's a case of a chicken's being too cute to comment about!

Poor Gwen. She was in the middle of the lawn with everyone else, freeranging, when the evil sprinklers came on (actually, DH and I were waiting for them to come on because we knew the commotion would be a riot...). Everyone went running... except for Gwen. She was angry!

But she couldn't figure out how to get away from the water!
Yes, Gwen is blonde, but she's a cute blonde.

OK, jbowyer... Here's another one. Dolly and Shelby asking Gwen why she didn't "just run" from the sprinkers (or maybe this was the rain mishap...??).

Oh dear, Gwen is adorable! Maybe she is actually a mad genius that knows that if she gets her head feathers wet she'll be able to see

I present to you: Henny Penny

12104_penny.jpg

She was voted "first one to be eaten by a predator". She received this award by being COMPLETELY oblivious to any and all signs of danger. When the other girls hear a scary noise and run for cover, there's Henny Penny, happily wandering outside, wondering where everyone went. When the girls were learning to go up the ramp into the coop at night, there was Henny Penny at the bottom of the ramp, totally clueless. If the light isn't on in the coop at dusk, I'll still find her sitting on the door outside her coop, wondering how to get to the other girls on the other side of the window. She can hear them, she just can't figure out how to get to them. She has been out of the brooder and in the run & coop for 2 months now

Oh yes, and she is my absolute favorite chicken, the sweet little dear.
