Ants eating chickens alive!!

We have these huge red ant colonies here in Texas and DE does NOT work! It slows them down for a few days but they pretty much laugh at it. But they laugh even harder at the "grits" or "corn meal" suggestion. Read up on what ants eat - it's fungus off the rotting items they pull down their holes. They don't eat the stuff they carry. Unfortunately, even the Amdro poison I've tried isn't terrible effective, and it's definitely not organic.

DE and organic stuff may work for some of those weaker northern species of ants; but I've yet to find one that works down here in the brush country.

Never heard of them eating a live chicken, though.

Quote: I've used food grade DE for years for keeping ants out of pet food bowls and the last couple years for keeping bugs down in my garden. The one thing I've found with ants is that it is temporary at best. It's a great way to get a line of ants to change directions though. And it's a wonderful natural wormer for pets.

I have a great organic ant trap that really works. Take a plastic mayonnaise jar, clean it out real good, take an ice pick and pock holes around the exterior about 3/4 way up, fill it halfway with sugar water( one cup sugar to 2 cups water heated till sugar melts, add red die) put lid on jar and set where ants moving around. Sprinkle little of the sugar water around where the jar is set.The ants will go into the jar and can't get out. WORKS GREAT!

Have you found anything that works for those huge red ants here in Texas?

I have a Ant problem!! I've spend a lot of money on ant killers that I cant have my chickens eat. I have broode hens sitting on eggs. The ants have gotten so bad they are eating my chickens Alive I already lost a 13lbs Buff Orbington rooster they ate alive during the night. And a month old chick due to the ants. Im forced to move all my chickens else were. All my chickens are tore up from ants. Any Organic ways to kill or get the ants out of my coops?
Yes, sprinkle diatomaceous earth where the ants are. It kills insects and is non-toxic, it won't hurt the chickens.
