Anxious wait.....do chickens have special powers?

Well it just got better,

Went to check Goldie again and she did a little turn followed by an explosion and the unmistakable pong of rotted egg. Gently lifted Goldie to remove the mess and there were at least three chicks of which two were already nicely fluffed out. One looked like a little Gold Brahma boy chick. Goldie quickly sat back down and clucked on contentedly (She is SUCH a laid back hen).

So she has managed to hatch outside during heavy rain with no nest under her and no pen over her. I do have a nice little pen and run ready for her now once she has finished hatching.

As soon as the little guys are peeping out a bit more I will take some pics.

Congratulations! And that is so cool about how she arranged the eggs and the stone, and all the other birds came to watch and wait. They really are amazing little animals.

They clearly knew. Maybe they could hear the chicks tapping inside the eggs, maybe they just know their own flock members in a way we do not understand.

Goldie is tired out now, her eyes keep shutting! The chicks, however, are starting to wake up and I have just briefly seen three (pecking each other already!) appearing from under her breast.

Hopefully they will stay out long enough for me to snap them tomorrow before I move everybody to an enclosed pen and run.

Thank you all SO much for your kind comments,.

Oh and the three I saw all look like Gold Brahma chicks.......my dead boy's legacy!

Well, here's the evidence! her less than palatial quarters and her chicks. (Sorry the ones of Goldie are a bit out of focus)

Goldie has 4 healthy looking chicks today and a pipped egg......and it has poured with rain overnight.

She is one proud momma!

3 out of the 4 (only 3 visible in the pic.) look like Gold Brahmas and the fourth a Blue Partridge.

I am SO pleased for her

OMG, that is the most beautiful chicken I have ever seen! What adorable babes... nature is truly an amazing opportunity for all of us. Occasionally I wish I had the senses that my dogs possess. Wouldn't that be cool to be able to smell and see everything. Sounds like a great hen you have there, she is pretty. I want one of those... Congrats mamma jennifer, oh, and keep the photos coming,

Awww, they are precious. I have an assortment of brahama colours but only seem to be able to hatch buff ones. Lucky you getting some more gold ones.
