any advice on waterers??

Yeah, you will need a new bucket for the horizontal nipples. Leave the buckets with the vertical nipples in the run...use the horizontal in the coop.

I got lubing cups from dine a chook and installed them on a bucket. The bucket is elevated on old pavers so the cups are at the level of the chicks back and I put an old plastic "cone of shame" on top of the bucket to keep chicks from perching up there. Love the combo - clean water, no spills. Horizontal nipples don't spill either if your chickens can work them, ours didn't use them well.
I had to look it up. Looks like an Australian watering system...looks interesting.

I'd just redo with horizontal nipples in a new bucket. For what it's worth, I don't think there is anything better than the horizontal nipples and putting them directly into a 5 gallon bucket is super simple and effective. No leaks. No wet bedding. Couldn't be easier.

yes, very interesting. id love to do the pvc waterer system and pvc feeder as well but not sure husband is keen on them. yet.

Do you have the vertical nipples...the ones pointed downward? I understand that those are prone to drip. The horizontal ones with the tiny catch cup are noted to be almost drip-free. A user here on BYC sales them on eBay and maybe here on BYC.

Here's a link to the eBay ones...

Rich is a great guy to do business with. I got my HN is just a couple days after ordering. The HN work great without leaking. buy with confidence!

Good luck!

i cannot thank you enough!! it even gives us specifics on how to do it. are these just HN or the cupped HN? i couldnt tell from pics.

The link is to the ones I mentioned with the "tiny cup"....Solway brand. If you look closely at the pictures one of the "wings" is a little different from the others...that "wing' protrudes out a bit farther to create a very small cup. Just be sure to orient this longer wing/lip at the bottom. I just ordered ten of them...I haven't even got a coop built yet, but I know what type of water system I will be using. :)

Yes, the cups are self filling with little floating stoppers. The plus is that the chicks don't need to do anythingnto get at the water, and they can dip their beaks and get a nice gulp. It gets hot here in the summer and I was worried that with the horizontal nipples they would only drink what they had to to just get by. Also they couldn't figure out that you had to push the silver pin in to get the water to come out, they kept pecking at the back of the device, just bending the nipple sideways and getting tiny drips.... I tried for at least a whole week. The cups were just as easy to install as the nipples, They install exactly the same way, actually, I even used the same size drill bit and I'm so happy with them.
