any arrowhead hunters or metal detector enthusiasts here?

Just curious, I have been an arrowhead freak since I was a little kid and found my first in a ditch picking up cans. Now I have a nice collection and have went looking in some really neat places. I am looking to start getting into metal detecting and kill 2 birds with one stone. I am thinking of getting the ace 250 to start out. I know some really neat places that could yield some good results, possible small French fur trading post.

We hunt arrowheads. My Dh has been doing it with his family since he was a boy and we do it as a family. We all spend all day. We have found lots of things, effigies, pipes, pottery, and arrowheads. I have sold a few pieces to purchase some horses along the way.

My DH and his dad built a real old timey log cabin that is at the edge of our property. There is a river rock fireplace inside with arrowheads laid in the hearth.

My DH is really good. I have found a few items but he can spot them like a hawk. I was really looking one day at the bottom of a creek and my dh walks over and picks up this beautiful arrowhead right between my feet!

It is so much fun! We love it.

You are in a great area for points. The coolest place I found was in Nevada while in the USAF. I back tracked to a place I worked on some missiles at Groom Lake (aka area 51) I found a shelter and water source. No grass there so you just look for the stuff everywhere. The neat part is they used mostly obsidian with some jasper and mica looking stuff...so I have a good amount of obsidian points now that are really neat. we also found a small pass through the mountains that was a trail. It has carvings and such in the smaller places.

I go hunting with my son, that is about the only person I have around here to look with and he only goes ever-so-often. Its a lot funner with a group of people for sure to share in the experience.

We had a huge indian populaton around where I live. There are burial grounds and places to dig and look everywhere. My Dh finds arrowheads in peoples yards when they build houses after the ground has been worked. There is a big property 3 miles from here that Auburn University now has the rights to for their students to come dig at but it is a big burial site and very close to where a village was and there has been so many things found there.

It is really awesome to find something that has been unseen and untouched for so many many years.

I will upload some pics to my photobucket and show you some things - It may be a while - I will try to do it sometime today.

Here are some pics I had on my photobucket already. I have more things. I will try and get some shots of them and put them on the comuter at some point. Excuse the cabins mess...it is at the other end of our property and we hardly go down there.....My DH and FIL built it and the FIL lived in it for a couple years while he and my MIL were seperated. There are arrowheads in the fireplace..The club is something my FIL made out of an arrowhead. He makes really awesome things.

That is great. I cant imagine what I would do if I had intact pottery. I know of burial mounds and a few single graves but I stay away from them. I am not suggesting you guys dig them. Just had to toss that in there because it can be a heated subject on either side. I do love sifting overhangs and small feeder creeks. That cabin is very awesome by the way...If I lived in Bama I think your hubby and I would be friends.

Be very careful; this is a dangerous topic. The Federal Government just prosecuted a bunch of people in Utah and Arizona for supposedly looting on federal land. And as far as federal bureaucrats are concerned, innocence is no excuse.

Yep I know about that stuff, I was studying it at OU for a bit. Picking up points is really never an issue. A lot fed and NA land where you speak of and I stay away from those areas. Most studies are conducted by novices turning over their finds to the state or university and its like biting the hand that feeds you. But I understand what you mean t-totally.
