I think sketching and colored pencils are more in my comfort zone but I think you have to get uncomfortable to grow.
I'm just kidding of course"Painting should make you happy at least 10 percent of the time. Otherwise give it up." - Amer
Absolute facts. I totally agree.I agree, except oils are in my comfort zone, not sketching with colored pencils. However, I’m trying something new soon so I can grow my art styles.
I mentioned before I was wanting to try pointillism. I think I’m going to try that today. Maybe I’ll try it with colored pencils just as an experiment to see if I can get it to work.
How else are you going to grow if you’re staying comfortable? Its the discomfort that helps you grow.
Another quote from Bob Ross, “let me get off my soapbox here.“
Love it!! Looks like it belongs in a book.View attachment 4063638here is what I spent so many hours on, btw
Thanks! I modeled it after the illustrations in the Standard of Perfection. Maybe someday I could make an illustration for the Standard of Perfection.Love it!! Looks like it belongs in a book.
I really feel that...I've got a drawing I started maybe three weeks ago and haven't worked on since. I just don't like how it looks and I'm afraid it's going to turn out badly, so I don't want to finish it.I heard an artist once say that if he's enjoying himself while making a piece, he's doing something wrong because his best work is produced when he's not enjoying himself.
I wish I could say this isn't true for me but unfortunately it is. Sketches I enjoy making usually have wonky anatomy because I was just doodling for fun.
90% of a watercolor masterpiece is spent thinking I did something totally wrong and it looks ugly and the last 10% is being pleasantly surprised because it actually worked out.
It took me weeks to paint one piece because I didn't want to spend the hours I knew it would take to finish it. And get out my paint supplies.
I would do like a layer a day then got busy and took like two weeks off, then spent almost seven hours today to finish it
I'll see if I can get some pictures later.
IKR? It took me three weeks to finish this latest piece and during that time I had it hanging over my head and stressing me out.I really feel that...I've got a drawing I started maybe three weeks ago and haven't worked on since. I just don't like how it looks and I'm afraid it's going to turn out badly, so I don't want to finish it.
I've been busy as well, but I should make myself finish it. It's been annoying me that it's not done...![]()
I don't think that's true for me. When I'm not enjoying myself I will be rushed and frustrated and make a lot of mistakes.I heard an artist once say that if he's enjoying himself while making a piece, he's doing something wrong because his best work is produced when he's not enjoying himself.
