Though this is important for drawing any animal, I think it applies especially so to wings; you have to know their anatomy inside and out. Real birds are quite helpful for this. I actually dried and pinned a button quail wing so I could study it and how the feathers sat on the bone structure. If you don't have any dried wings, I assume you have live chickens, which is fairly useful as well if they'll let you pick them up.Either.
