Here are a couple of charcoal drawings I drew in my sketchbook the other day.
A girl.
And a monster I drew.

That looks fantastic! I love that part of the book.Nobody asked or cares but I’ve decided to share my drawing process. Four characters meant a few days of effort.
These are four hobbits from The Lord of the Rings as I picture them.
First: reference pic. I used a really ugly stock photo and edited out a lady. I also used other references and now know way more than I needed to know about tailoring a waistcoat.
First, just blobs. This is where I decide how to proportion everything and everyone in relation to the page so they’re on the same plane and at the heights I want them.View attachment 3200241
Then I add the limbs where I want them.

Then I did each character one at a time from left to right so I didn’t smudge them with my hand (and I covered the remaining outlines on the right with a piece of paper.)
Here is the process for each character. First, I do curves, then edges, then clothes then facial features, sometimes in that order but not always. (Sam as an example.)View attachment 3200244
Then I add the fancy shading.View attachment 3200245
I did that with all four and viola!View attachment 3200247
Now I understand the process. Very interesting. Here's some inlay process shots. This picture is nice, because it shows what's happening at the major steps of the inlay process. From right to left, an empty channel ready for gold, gold hammered in and ready for finishing, and gold inlaid and stoned flush. Then, the finished result. Outlines come next.
I created a special flat graver in the appropriate width for the line in my design. Inlay went much smoother with this custom tool and I'm much happier with my result.
Here's to everyone having a spectacular tuesday.

I have! I do draw HTTYD dragons sometimes, I just don’t have the art saved.Woah, those are incredible! I love the Icewing poser, and the venom one! And the one that looks like a sunbeam snake. I was just thinking about that, making a dragon the colors of a sunbeam snake.
Have you read the How to Train Your Dragon books? It would be so cool to see your take on those dragons.
He is so under worshipped. Look at the neglect! How dare you treat him in such a way! Holding a pencil instead of 2 handed pats. Terrible servant. :3I summoned a Shiloh using my art skills. View attachment 3200876
I'm reading the books AGAIN somehow. I guess because I made my little brother read them. Whenever I read a beloved series there is inevitably some fan art.I have! I do draw HTTYD dragons sometimes, I just don’t have the art saved.
