Some dumb little sketches, featuring my cockatiel Apollo :3

Tried a different art style today. I don't know why her legs don't wanna exist. View attachment 3337550
Clearly it’s because you ate some of her mushrooms. She knows what she’s about.
And then he fixes the timeline and no one remembers that he saved humanity from having no legs and everyone hates him again 🥲
That’s because legs suck a lot and have issues especially when used as intended.

Would you do me a huge favor and draw my puppy? 🥺 I’d rather you not copy one of the photos….just use them for reference. Thank you so much!!

Basically I have a big goal. So my mom sent this to me and said it would be a good fair project to do this in watercolor. Because I hate doing backgrounds. I’m thrilled, because who wouldn’t want a pile of chickens filling up a painting on their wall? However, definitely needs more hens and I want to be more creative with the shapes. And while these chickens have far better anatomy than a lot of the artwork, those sickles definitely need some main tail support or they would just flop. I know I have tried some other styles in the past but I think I should just embrace my realistic style for what it is because I’m definitely an anatomy fanatic. I mean, my understanding of art and poultry anatomy developed hand in hand. I’m learning how to be a poultry judge, I just love a well-balanced chicken.

Now obviously I would use my big watercolor book for the real piece but for now I’m doing little sketches for practice since I’ve only ever used real watercolor once except in middle and elementary school. This is what I’ve done today. I was using an Old English (large fowl) as reference for the tail but for the next bird I’m going to try to imitate the color placement of the birds in the painting so I can figure out how painting works. I’ve already learned a lot, like how white watercolor really works and I shouldn’t be afraid to just lay down a thick black base and then add lighting and then detail instead of constantly readjusting colors. Even so, it worked out in the end!

Oh, and by the way… does anyone have any idea what the original drawing was made with?

Anyone: Doctor, my legs hurt! I didn't even fall down this time, or hit them, or touch them the wrong way-
Doctor: Yes, I know. That's how it is now.

Maybe oil paints?

Your tail looks amazing. :)

You flipping muffin dare say those are just ‘dumb little sketches’. Don’t underestimate your drawings, those are awesome! 😦

Can we all just agree that when anyone does ‘just a little sketch’ on a random piece of paper and then it turns out to be AWESOME but of course it’s on a random piece of paper and deserves to be in an actual drawing. But then when you try to redo it on an actual drawing, it’s looks funky?

From what I can find, the original image is from someone named Patiwat Sariya (@Last19)? That says it's a watercolour painting that's been digitally edited together (to make a repeating pattern); and it does look like a heavy pigment watercolour.

And, good luck with your painting! Watercolour is tricky, so I definitely recommend watching experienced watercolour artists on YouTube. They have good tips for colour blending and having that watercolour feel. 🙏

Hmm ok, that would make sense.
Thanks for the advice but I wish that I had not received it at such a time. Do not tempt me from my sleep with such a rabbit hole! Actually though, thanks for the good advice.
Anyways, here’s practice #1.
I have learned that you should always paint what is farthest back first. 😅 You can always paint details over it but is painful and weird looking to paint what had accidentally been painted over. I also learned how to use white better. Like not lighting with pure white and not shading with pure black.
