I have 6 mallard ducks and 8 chickens in a 12by12 pen. At first I had three of those plastic waterers, but the chickens would practically fight over a place at one of them and my ducks would get the disgusting and bring mouthfulls of food over and clog up the little holes. So we put a plastic baby pool in too ,so now there is more room and the ducks can go swimming if they get hot (we live in Louisiana). But now the ducks STILL clog up the plastic waterers and they get the pool water so dirty so quick that I have to completly take out all the water and scrub it down to get all of the *cough cough* mud off. And thats not easy, because i cant just dump it out right there in their pen. I have to scoop it all out with a bucket

does anybody have a easy cheap solution please???

I wouldn't keep the ducks and chickens together. Ducks are cute but they are messy....the lady down the street from me does not put their feeders or waterers anywhere near their swimming area because of your exact issue.

this summer though her hubby built a pond for the ducks so they now have more room.

in your case it sounds like you need more room.

Good luck

Theres plenty of room, and we have a pond right next door( You can see it from the pen). They know where it is and we have brought them there before. They swam around for about an hour, then flew home. Its just the fact that they get they pool so nasty so quick, and i cant just leave it gross without feelin terrible. we live in Louisiana so we have pen with chicken wire on 3 side, so the ground in the pen is dirt, and that doesnt help the problem any. wowwwww, that one person puts a lottttt of time into her ducks doesnt she. Would any of you happen to know how to get ducks to stay in the pond? Because thats what we got them for in the first place. they just wont stay there.
