Guidence from others is needed, but it must be tested against all Scripture as well, so as to not put us in a position of fallowing mans rewording and twisting of the Word.
yes, yes, YES! Sometimes, though, from personal experience, when you tell someone to show you what they've just said in scripture, they become a bit, well, put off. That shouldn't be! My DH is famous for that, challenging folks to show him in the Book. "Show me that in the Bible" shouldn't cause contention among the Body, right? And when someone says "I believe this...." or "I believe that...", I always want to tell them that it doesn't matter what
you believe, it matters what the Bible says is true. Period. What
you believe doesn't change what the Truth
is. God said his Word is preserved forever, he meant it. If we don't have a preserved Word, we have an impotent God. And we know that is not the case. Might as well not believe anything at all if we have no "yardstick" to measure everything by.
