Any chance this would keep a raccoon out?

Okay try this--I don't think Ricky Racoon can get through this.

Overlap the hasp with the loop

Turn the loop

And put on the lock

And lock it.

That would certainly do it! I guess I was thinking least hassle to get open, while still getting the job done. But I guess if you can leave the key in the lock...

Even I have trouble with my carabiner in the hatch... it's a snug latch, angled a bit, so you have to pull... and that's after you manage to get the smallish (3 inches?) biner out in the first place.

I'd definitely go with that.

If a human baby/toddler/child can figure it out/accidentally open it then a coon can... my theory anyways.

Truth is the easier it is for you to open the easier it is for a coon. I can imagine, given the time, they could fiddle long enough with the turner loop to get it open--either the padlock or a clip should slow them down enough so I'd catch them at it.

I wouldn't leave the key in the lock! Coons will fiddle with that too, and just may figure it out. What I did with mine, is to put a nail near the door to hang the key, then you won't forget it!
