Mottled, with a crest. They were sent as "surprises" in a hatching egg box. All look like this. Mottled, speckled, black crest, with black/brown, bay, red colors.. They look a little like icelandic chickens.. but they're def not.

Ebay. The girl said they were speckled sussex, but then these hatched. I got one speckled sussex. She also raises polish and seramas, so maybe those three? She swears they didn't mix, but these are def not speckled sussex. The egg color was a light brown just like a speckled sussex, I couldn't tell the difference in the batch of eggs.

The bird in the above picture looks like a mix, Speckled Sussex and Polish could fit.

A Mottled Houdan mix might look similar.

I am doubtful that Polish is in the mix, unless there were Polish mixes in the flock. There's no sign of the horn comb, and the crest is quite small.

I'm guessing Legbar type Easter egger crossed with speckled Sussex.

You're right, these are definitely not purebred no matter what the seller says. The fact that she won't cop to it tells you all you need to know about her business ethics.

I doubt this is a polish x sussex cross. Polish usually produce crosses with a larger crest and an imperfect single comb (due to the polish v-comb). Also, the white spots, mottling, is recessive, so both parents have to have it for their offspring to have it (however, chickens can sometimes show mottling with only one copy of the gene when they’re young, and then it disappears when they get older).

I will take some and share. They are about 6 weeks old. feathered but just. One of the cockerels is crowing already ( have two pairs)
