Keep in mind, condition matters a LOT. I suggest a lot of online and book reading, as well as going to coins shows and asking the pros what they think. We rarely buy ungraded coins, unless it's a real gem, rare and in BU condition at the very least.

The best thing you can do is learn more about them!

I have some old pennies early 1900's not sure what they are worth if anything. I have some sets too in change of certain years and I have no idea where they are right now and I don't think they are that old but I think they are uncirculated or mint something like that, my grandpa gave them to me.

Actually, the Morgan Silver Dollars & the Peace silver dollars (90% silver) are worth the weight of silver that is in them, if ungraded...graded, you can get book value for them, should somone be willing to pay that amount, if not, expect a percentage lower than book value, but still would be worth more than just the silver content alone...

When my mom died, we were moving a file cabinet to donate to the Salvation Army and out of the bottom fell a pile of 1870's, though 1920's morgan dollars as well as walking liberty halves, panama canal commemorative quarters and other neat silver coins as well as several1928 red $2 bills.
We halted all donations for the day til we could go through stuff.

You sound just like me. My DGF used to give me half dollars, silver, and I did the same thing. I took them to the store and got candy, shame on the lady that took them. I know she's dead now but when I got older I should have gone back to that store and reminded her of what I gave her. I did hear she retired in Fl.

Last week I took $5.00 in quarters to the store and received $60.00. Three dollars for each quarter. It was Christmas and I needed the money.

I'm a casual collector. I have some coins from the Bahamas, the Isle of Mann (can't resist the cats), some silver dollars/other American coins and a couple of coins from other places too. All silver. I've lost some too; I'll find them eventually I'm sure but it is SOOO annoying to know I have coins that I put 'somewhere safe' before I started consolidating.
