I have been learning Russian for years now, but just began taking it more seriously (daily study/practice + weekly formal lessons) for about 9 months. The language-learning process is quite the adventure, but it is rewarding. It can be a rollercoaster of emotions at times, because on a good day you feel on top of the world and that you are on your way to fluency, and on a bad day you feel horrible and that you may never learn. Overall though, I really have enjoyed learning a new language.

So, who else out there is learning a language? Which language are you learning, and are there any others you want to learn? How has the experience been, and do you have any tips for learning?

Feel free to discuss anything else about language acquisition here, even if you aren't learning a language yet! :)

Hai, nihongo o benkyoshimasu
(Yes, I study Japanese)
Oh cool! I actually took some Japanese lessons this year leading up to my trip to Japan in June. I know some phrases but I am by no means conversational. We were able to get around the country though and order food. :) How is learning Japanese going for you?

It's going good! I use Duolingo it's an app.
Nice! Yeah I use Duolingo for Russian too, to help with vocabulary. I've probably used it for 10 years now on and off. For me, it's been good for learning new words but I got frustrated that I couldn't speak after years of using it and a book. It wasn't until taking lessons with native speakers that I actually have become somewhat conversational. But, to my understanding, Duolingo for Russian isn't as well-developed as it is for other languages. How has your experience been with Duolingo for Spanish?

Yes probably because Russian is quite complicated from what I've heard, it's been good for learning Spanish but I think that's like the main language on there.

Well, I am learning casually, so slowly but surely. I'm not conversational either but I can pick up stuff here and there
